Saturday 21 August: T-shirt transformation – What else can our materials do?
10am – 11.30am
Join artist Liam Benson for a playful, sensory led investigation into what else our materials can do. This workshop is a lockdown creative kickstart focused on revealing new possibilities and embracing open-ended outcomes. As a starting point, we will learn and share ways of repurposing old T-shirts, thought cutting, weaving, sewing and knotting to make tactile and textured creations.
By adding in recycled materials and resources from your personal makers collection, we will expand on the way you make through process and sensory led experimentation!
Things you will need:
– An old stretch fabric t-shirt for cutting up
– Sharp scissors (fabric scissors if possible)
– Needle and thread
– Large bulldog clip or clasp (optional)
– Random collection of textured makers materials such as buttons, beads, charms, chain, old jewellery, shells, pom poms, feathers, fabric pieces, string etc
– Anything else you would like to experiment with and know more about.
Possible outcomes:
– necklace/ bracelet
– cat toy
– hanging decoration
– bag strap
– belt
A zoom link will be emailed to all registered participants.
About Artist Liam Benson
Liam Benson is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working on Darug Country, Western Sydney. Incorporating performance, photography, video and textiles, Benson’s work explores identity and culture as a living dualistic process, both informed by and aiding to challenge tradition. Liam’s practice is informed by working collaboratively with community through an ongoing conversation about how culture, sub-culture and identity interrelate and evolve.
