Studio Tour with Locust Jones

Blue Mountains artist Locust Jones, takes us into his studio for a peek at some of his new works in progress.

Jones’ practice responds to the constant and overwhelming presence of mass media and the 24hour news cycle. Through radio, podcasts, articles and internet feeds, the artist is surrounded by headlines as he works. Cut up phrases and images spread across the page in a hectic and staccato-like manner, reflecting the fast paced stream of information that washes over us every day.

The onslaught of media produced in response to the global pandemic has been all near impossible to avoid. These new works are dominated by words and phrases we know all too well from compulsively scrolling the news in recent weeks. Jones has previously stated: “All this information is channeled into my drawings and paintings. Through all this information I try to make sense of the big picture.”
