Join artist Pam Vaughan for a 6-week studio course exploring drawing as a dynamic and responsive practice, developed in connection with the Hill Painting Prize exhibition at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.
Working with a mindful and playful approach to studio practice, participants will explore a range of observational drawing techniques, media (including pencil, charcoal, chalk pastels, ink, collage, & paint), and responses to the Blue Mountains built and natural environments. This will involve processes for recognising and developing your own visual language (whether naturalistic or abstract), and self-reflection on the images you make, contributing towards creative confidence and autonomy.
Suitable for both new and returning participants, this course offers the opportunity to develop a body of work while deepening your understanding of how landscape can be constructed, interpreted, and reimagined.
Extra info: You are invited to bring your own favourite drawing media.
Bring with you: 1 x A3 pad of cartridge paper & at least one A4-sized photo of a landscape in the Blue Mountains region.
Artist Bio:
Pam Vaughan works primarily in drawing and printmaking, exploring animals, landscape, and a conversation about ‘aliveness’. Her practice is shaped by an interest in Sumi-e painting, the poetry of Mary Oliver, mindfulness practice, and ideas drawn from contemporary physics research. She approaches mark-making as a physical and energetic extension of the body. Pam’s exhibiting activities include a national printmaking award, being a finalist in the Sulman, Dobell and Kedumba Drawing Awards. She has taught extensively across community and education settings, including at Sydney University and the National Art School.
