A Week in the Life of the World

Featuring large papier mâché installations, drawings, lithographs,and ceramics, this exhibition presents an extensive response to society’s constant saturation with headlines and short lived news images. Jones trawls through newspaper images, headlines and news articles piling up imagery and language to depict and illuminate the chaos, death, famines, wars and political upheaval in today’s world.
Locust Jones was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and currently resides in The Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia. His work is represented in public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia and the Shepparton Art Museum. He has completed residencies in Seoul, Beirut and New York and in 2009, he was the winner of the Hazelhurst Works on Paper Award, and the Drawing section of the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award . In 2010 he won the Waikato Museum’s Bold Horizon National Contemporary Art Award. Locust Jones is represented in Australia by Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney, Karen Woodbury Gallery, Melbourne, Bett Gallery, Tasmania and Galerie Patrick Ebensperger, Berlin, Germany.
