THE UNCODE: TIA MADDEN

7 Feb – 29 Mar

The Uncode calls on the science-fictional, magical, and archaeological to probe the ambiguous space where drawing and writing overlap. Through expanded drawing and installation, this exhibition asks if a contemporary activation of ‘uncoded forms’ – signs not-yet or no-longer tied to a language system – can conjure new meanings or unearth powerful, ancient, repressed ones.

Combining abstractions and ancient languages into notational sequences, The Uncode constructs a large-scale text-like installation that teeters on the edge of legibility, speculating if mark-making in a contemporary art context can cross spatial and temporal distances to make contact with ancient humans, distant futures, and metaphysical realms.
