This course follows on from the Beginners Drawing and Painting course and gives students a chance to progress their skills by completing one drawing and one painting project of their own choosing.
Learn to plan your projects, creating balanced compositions and effective tonal and colour arrangements. Learn to edit your subject to emphasize the most interesting components of the image. You will be taught in a simplified, step-by step process, focusing on the correct application of materials based on traditional drawing and painting techniques.
Students who missed the last course but who have some experience with pencil and brush are very welcome to join.
$200/$180 InSight Members – Most materials are supplied: please bring your own brushes, painting palette and knife.

About the teacher, Kristel Smits:
Kristel Smits is a landscape artist with a focus on colour as an expression of mood. Having worked as an art restorer for many years, she has a strong interest in extending traditional techniques into contemporary drawing and painting language, and she is keen to share her technical and material knowledge with her students. Kristel holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts (University of NSW). She recently undertook an artist residency at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam funded by the Australia Council for the Arts. She has taught at the University of NSW Art & Design, the National Art School and Sydney Community College.
