Improve your observation and interpretation skills to capture the essence of your subject. Looking at the work of both traditional and contemporary artists, the course covers basics as well as more advanced drawing and painting skills and concepts. There will be a lesson on plein air sketching in which we will work outdoors directly from the subject. Plenty of individual guidance is given to cater for your abilities; all skills levels are welcome.

Kristel Smits

Learn to represent the human figure using line, tone and luminous colour. This course is a fun challenge for beginner artists new to the subject, those who have been dabbling in life drawing, as well as painters wanting to expand their subject repertoire. Drawing and painting the figure is the most effective way of testing your powers of observation and your accuracy in drawing and colour rendition. We will start with the fundamentals of sketching the figure and shading for 3 dimensional effects. Working from both a life model and photographs, the course takes you through a range of drawing and painting exercises that will hone your skills in quick observation as well as more accurate representation.
